The economic development arm of Sheffield City Council, Creative Sheffield, has launched a campaign to encourage law firms to "northshore" in the city.
The highest profile move so far has been made by Freshfields, which has taken 80,000 sq ft of office space. It will be joining the likes of Nabarro, Irwin Mitchell, Taylor & Emmet and Hill Dickinson in Sheffield, as well as many more large law firms who have already taken space in cities in the north of England and the Midlands.
With commercial office space in London continuing to rise, and the development of the Northern Powerhouse, it is great timing for Sheffield's campaign.
SHEFFIELD has launched a push to persuade London law firms to relocate some of their functions and people to the city. Legal firms have been looking at "northshoring", with the decision by Magic Circle firm Freshfields to take 80,000 sq ft the most prominent so far.
