The news that magic circle law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is offering paralegal apprenticeships must be welcomed with open arms. This move creates more flexibility and wider access to the legal profession.
This new initiative will hopefully encourage other law firms to offer similar apprenticeships, ensuring that the legal profession does not lose out on the talented lawyers who could not, for whatever reason, take the traditional trainee route.
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is believed to be the first magic circle firm to offer paralegal apprenticeships, insisting the move will not affect its future trainee solicitor numbers. The London-headquartered firm, in partnership with the University of Law, will take on two apprentices at its legal services centre in Manchester, starting in October.
