Thanks so much to Edward Fennell for mentioning our new report with Fox Williams entitled, "From Recruitment to Robots: growth strategies for law firms" in The Times' Law Diary.
The survey to the UK Top 200 law firms has revealed that firms are looking to investment in technology and the recruitment of teams as alternative growth strategies to merger.

Fomo for lawyers “What motivates your continued international expansion?” I asked the managing partner of a leading London-based law firm. “Fear,” he responded without a micro-second’s thought. Fear of missing out? Fear of being left behind? The fear factor certainly explains why some firms continue to merge despite the growing view, as reported recently in From Recruitment to Robots: growth strategies for law firms (Fox Williams and Byfield) that “realising profits from overseas offices can be very challenging”. Mind you, it all depends on who you merge with, I suppose.
